When using BRU Server software on networks that require BRU Server to communicate through a firewall, please be aware of the following:
- BRU Server uses ports 14441-14450. All of these ports must be opened to allow proper communication of the BRU Server Server and the BRU Server Agent.
- Bidirectional communication is a must. BRU Server must be able to communicate in both directions using ports 14441-14450 on the TCP protocol. If you experience trouble with this, open the same ports for the UDP protocol for troubleshooting. If it still doesn't work, you may close the UDP ports again, however, the TCP ports must remain open to allow BRU Server to communicate effectively.
- While you can change the port that the Agent process uses (in the BRU Server Console, under Data Manager -> Clients), the Agent will still communicate back to the BRU Server Server on port 14441 for the initial communication and the move to another port for the actual backup. This allows the BRU Server Server port 14441 to remain open to listen for new connections from the Console or other Agents.
